MidSummer Night's Run 2012

August 11 - This was my very first downtown evening race.  I have always wanted to do this race.  There were a lot of runners for this race.  It was a very cool night.  I felt like I had it in the bag.  I was super confident to better my time and pace.  This was going to be my last race for the year.  I was pushing myself about the 2 mile mark.  I finished the race strong but didn't better my time from the last race.  Better luck next time.  At least I was 155 out of 296 in my age group.

The Great Buffalo Chase 2012

July 4 - Buffalo Trace Distillery has an annual 5K on the 4th of July. I love bourbon whiskey and you can smell the liquor as you run around the buildings. The trail is very scenic. It was a very warm morning with temps reaching 80 degrees. I stayed hydrated but there were a few emergent situations for other runners. Again, I didn't do my best but I think it was because of the heat.

Fox 56 5K 2012

June 16 - This race was in beautiful Midway, KY. It was running through neighborhoods and down a country road where you saw horses and cattle grazing wondering what these people are running from. I didn't do very well but yet again I wasn't training like I should have. I'm still getting winded towards my last mile. Just trying to pace myself better.

Run for the Nun 5K 2012

June 2 - I was completely determined to better my time.  I just started training for a 10K that I'll be running in October.  I started to use nikeplus 10k training coach.  So far it's a great training program.  It has helped me increase my miles.  It's the extra push I needed.  It also helped me improve my time in this race.  The course wasn't that bad.  My energy level was pretty high even though I was extremely nervous at the start.  I finished very strong but was totally exhausted afterwards.  I know I've got it in me to do better.  I still need to push myself to run more.

2XU Compression Socks

I’ve been having some minor shin pain/soreness.  I always do stretches before and after runs.  I’ve searched the internet for ways to alleviate my pain and decided to get compression socks.  I haven’t worn them yet in a race but I plan to soon.  I don’t see many runners wear them so I’m not sure how well they will work.

I plan to get more running gear.  I would love to have some compression pants and/or shorts.  To bad gear can be so expensive .

Addison Jo Blair 5K Run /Walk

May 19th - This is my 2nd race with the “Burger King” group.  The group consists of family/friends (some related to my sister in law).  The relatives of my sister in law have been my friends for a number of years.  The husband of one friend owns a few “Burger King” franchises and he loves to run with his wife.  They are a great pair running side by side.  I was honored to run with them and others again.

There was a large crowd for this race because it was for a great cause.  Sadly, my running time and pace was much worse than the last race.

This race made me realize that I’ve got to change my whole routine.  I never want to fall behind in time again.  I’ve got to train harder and increase my miles.  I can’t stand how I do so well my first 2 miles then I start lagging on my last mile.

Sharks on the Run 5K 2012

May 12 - This is the last Fayette County Public School race.  I received my Trifecta shirt during the awards ceremony.  There were 37 Trifecta runners.  I’m so excited because I’ve never done a series of races that were for one purpose.
I didn’t train for this race.  In the end, my time wasn’t the greatest but I deserved it because I didn’t train.  My goal is to better my time with every race I run but I have fallen behind.

I’m stuck in limbo.  I want to improve my running time and pace but I’ve got to train harder and increase my miles.  I have moments when I tell myself I can do it then another part of me tells me I can’t.

Bryan Station Defender Classic 5K Run/Walk 2012

April 21 - This the 2nd race through the Fayette County Public Schools.  This is also my first race running in the rain.  I was totally unprepared.  The temperature was 50 with light to medium rain.  I wore a bandana but also brought a hat.  My clothing was a t-shirt underneath a long sleeve shirt along with capri length running pants.  I was determined to finish the race even if my clothes got soaked and my sneakers felt squishy.

My time is better than my last 5K's.  Room for improvement is definitely there.  My goal was to get out of 30mins and I've certainly done that.  My next race isn't until 5/12 and that is the last Fayette County Public School race.  As a finisher, I'll be getting a Trifecta shirt with all three races on it.  What an accomplishment plus I plan to better my time again.  I can't wait.  I hope to have my kids and husband there to cheer me on for this one.  I'll need that extra push especially since I'm still struggling on mile 2 but I've got my sprinting stride pretty much set when I hit the mile 3 marker and see the finish line.

I was determined to better my time since my first 5K on 3/10.  I improved some but I'm still stuck in the thirties.  My pace has gotten better but this race had a tough hill at the end which was very steep and killed me.  I slowed up so bad but kept going.  I have realized that my last mile is my toughest.  I was hoping to finish in 29mins.  I wasn't too far behind.  My next school race is 4/28.  I looking forward to bettering my time again.

I had a great race yesterday (3/17).  It was beautiful weather outside.  This was my 2nd race of the year and my very first 3K.  There were 2,373 runners (837 men/ 1,536 women).  My last race, I ran a mile in about 11 minutes.  I wanted to better my pace and time to run it in 10 minutes.  Overall, I am very proud of myself.  My chip time was 18:36 and clock time was 20:25.  I'm improving each race.  I feel since it was a shorter distance I was able to push myself more.  My time could have been better.  The starting of the race was a little bit packed.  They divided the runners into 4 groups: 12min runners were up front, 16min runners were in the middle, 21min runners were in the back with the walkers/strollers.  I placed myself in the 21min group.  We started down a narrow street so I was having trouble making it up to the front and was weaving around runners that started off slow.  Next year, I will definitely be in one of the first two groups.  My husband and kids were there to cheer me on at the starting and ending of the race.  It's the best feeling to know you've got supporters out there.

It's March Madness

My first race of the New Year.  I've been running on and off for the past few years but it was just to lose weight.  I've accomplished the weight loss but fell in love with running all over again.  The passion for running started when I was a 4th grader.  I ran track along with cross country till I graduated from high school.  At the time, I was pretty good until I started slacking off and didn't care to train as hard as everyone else.

In July 2010, I purchased a nike sensor so I can use my ipod to time my runs.  It was the best purchase I ever made.  I like how it trains you for any race plus it graphs (http://www.nikeplus.com/) your runs so you can see how fast and slow your pace was.

I made a promise to myself to continue eating healthy (because of the weight loss) and run again.  My goal is to train for my 1st half marathon and later a full marathon in the future.  I have 2 active children and in ways I'm doing this for them too.  I want them to know that "You can do anything you set your mind to do".

My first race of the year results:

It's not the greatest time but this was my first race of the year and my goal was to run w/out stopping.  It was very cold (37 degrees).  I'm not use to running in cold weather.  I also didn't have the proper running gear which I plan to purchase soon.  I've got 2 more races this month.  I plan to better my time.

Personal Note  *Thank you honey for being there for me.  It was the best feeling in the world to see your big smile and sign I couldn't read from a far (LOL) waiting for me at the finish line.* XOXO
